The march of time has left Lechlade behind. What better place to find antiques? |

LECHLADE on THAMES
|
|
Lechlade
is a small town that is more like a village in character, consisting
mainly of pretty 17th and 18th century Cotswold stone properties with the River Thames winding along its
southern border. In the spring through to the autumn it attracts many
visitors, to enjoy both the sleepy pace and the ambling waters of the River
Thames and visit the popular butchers, bakers, grocers and delicatessen shops. And of course, all year
long, anyone seriously interested in antiques or antique furnishings heads
straight for Jubilee Hall Antiques. |

WHERE TO EAT
We like the restaurant in the Lechlade Garden Centre that is located on the right about a quarter mile to the west of the town on the A417 Fairford/Cirencester Road. Excellent for light lunches or just coffee and a cake.
On a hot summer's day you may prefer a ploughman's of generous proportions, eaten on the lawn at the famous and ancient Trout Inn, while watching men mucking about in small boats on the Thames. You will find it about half a mile to the east the town on the A417 Farringdon road.
WHERE TO STAY
As we live in the area we don't have any experience of using paid accommodation, but a number of long distance visitors regularly choose to stay at Cambrai Lodge, a modern B&B with its own car park. The entrance is immediately to the left of Jubilee Hall. Tel No: 01267 253173
The New Inn in the market place is a typical country town hotel with a regular clientele both for its many rooms and its bar and restaurant food. Clients have use of the hotel car park.
ANTIQUES FAIR
There is the regular Lechlade Antiques Fair on the 1st Sunday of every month in the Memorial Hall behind us. The same management run the Burford Antiques Fair of the 3rd Sunday in the month at Burford school, just west of the roundabout on the A40. Both are convenient for a visit to Jubilee hall Antiques.
ANTIQUES SHOPS
The Old Ironmongers Shop is well run if traditional antiques centre and is on the same side of the road as ourselves, 200 yards towards the town centre. There are one or two other establishments selling furniture, art, antiques and interesting bric-a-brac. Burford is only 10 minutes north of Lechlade and is home to many well established antiques businesses. You will also find antiques shops in Fairford (10 minutes west of Lechlade on the A417) and Cirencester (20 minutes west of Lechlade, also on the A417). Tetbury is 15 minutes south west of Cirencester on the A433. |
